A Child’s Bed By Rich Knapfel This bed can brighten up any dollhouse or room box. The construction is easy and much of it can be made from pieces of scrap wood. Any additional decorations can be purchased in your favorite craft store. Have an adult help you cut the wood and fabric pieces with a craft saw and scissors. What You’ll Need: - 3 Pieces of 1/4 inch flat basswood cut to 3-inch lengths - 2 Pieces of 1/4-inch flat basswood cut to 6-inch lengths - 1 “Headboard” from the craft store ( Dog, Fence, or etc.) Figure-1 - 1 Piece of 3 X 6 in flat basswood - 4 Pieces of 3/8 square basswood cut to 3/4-inch lengths - Several cotton balls - 8 X 12-inch piece of your favorite fabric (Pillowcase/Bedspread) - Tacky Glue - Single - edge razor blade or X-ACTO Knife - Scissors 1. Using the 1/4 inch flat basswood, assemble the main bed frame as shown in the diagram below.
2. Glue the 3 X 6-inch piece of basswood to the assembled frame. 3. Flip the frame over to reveal the bottom of the bed. Attach the legs to the four corners of the frame. Allow adequate drying time for all of the glued pieces. 4. Attach the headboard (wooden character - dog, fence or etc.) to the bed frame. 5. Using the 8 X 12-inch piece of fabric, cut a suitable size for the bed spread. 6. Glue some cotton balls to the bed frame surface and cover the cotton with the bedspread that you cut in step five. This will give the bed surface that rounded “puffed up” look. 7. With some of the remaining fabric, wrap a few of the cotton balls up to form a pillow.
